SOKO Institute offers a content-full and methodical broad range of services, which are based on the qualifications, expertise and experience of members of research staff.

The usage of the whole spectrum of qualitative and quantitative empirical research methods belongs to our established skill set. Covered are the conception and consultation of empirical studies, evaluations, scientific project assistance of public programs and regulations, as well as data collection. Besides that, statistical analysis and target-oriented processing and presentation of results are provided.

Study Design & Questionnaire Development

In the beginning of every study there is a particular interest in knowledge and with it, there are linked research questions. Before scientific curiosity and research interest form concrete projects, research questions and research topic need to be precisely phrased.

Recruitment & Access to Target Groups

SOKO Institute recruits specific target groups for respective studies through online or conventional mail, phone calls and flyers. Internal communication and behavioral trainings ensure professional advertisement for projects and an honest and open access to target personnel. During recruitment the Institute follows all guidelines and legal regulations of the federal states that are relevant for the respective studies.

The Gabler-Häder-Design is used for representative population research. For Interviews with employees, unemployed people and businesses, a data request following §§75 und 80 SGB X is made to the ITM-IAB.

SOKO Institute has extensive experience with the Random-Route-Procedure (RRV) for random selection of households and target personnel in randomly selected Sample-Points. In cooperation with Dr. Johannes Bauer from LMU München, the RRV is momentarily being digitalized and optimized.

Sample Designs & Weighting Procedures

In many empirical studies, representativeness plays a fundamental role. To ensure said representative nature in all the regional and nationwide surveys, a set of different sampling and weighting procedures comes into play.

We offer:

Sampling Procedures:

  • Development of sample designs
  • Random drawings of all types of population, including drawings for international surveys
  • Random drawings of telephone samples: Drawings from fixed network samples and mobile network samples (“dual-frame”) following the Gabler and Häder procedure (GESIS)
  • Matrix-drawing: Drawing and analysis of samples with incomplete data

  • Verification of representativeness of samples in relation to chosen features of population
  • Calculation and estimation of standard errors for statistical parameters

Correction of bias (weighting) and replacement of missing data:

  • Weighting according to structural features (age, gender, federal state and others) and design weighting
  • Correction of estimations on the grounds of different types of missing data
  • Usage of simple and complex mathematical methods for replacement of missing data
  • Assessment of the effects of weighting on the basis of simulations

Statistical Data Analysis, Coding & Presentation

Depending on the respective study’s research question and the chosen survey tool and target group of results, data is corrected, coded according to scientific standards and processed for presentation. By doing so, SOKO Institute enforces national and international standards and uses a plentitude of elaborated and established methods of analysis.

  • Drafting and analysis of one- and multidimensional spread sheets including the calculation of statistical correlations, significance tests and graphic illustration
  • Explorative data analysis: all cluster analytical procedures (hierarchical and partitioned  procedures), explorative factor analysis, search for optional models (“model search”)

  • Confirmatory data analysis: specification and examination of linear models with dependent metric and discrete variables (simple and multiple regressions, logistic regression). Specification and analysis of structural equation models with and without latent (unobserved) variables and with arbitrary levels of measurement (discrete or metric)

Data processing and coding:

  • Extensive quality assessment and correction of raw data including documentation and coordination
  • Efficient digitalization and control of invalid sets of data

  • Coding of open naming
  • Coding of specified questions and items according to established coding standards (economy, sector and business classes (WZ, ISCO, NACE, KldB), education levels (ISCED) and current EU and Destatis-Classifications)
